is a Mexican national holiday particularly celebrated in Mexico. However, the public holiday has become increasingly more popular and is observed around the world. The holiday's main purpose consists of family and friends gathering to pray for and remember their deceased loved ones. Traditionally, the departed are honored with gifts of sugar skulls, marigolds, favorite foods/beverages, and private altars. It is common for women to celebrate the day with calaveras makeup giving them the appearance of a calavera (ornate clay or sugar skull).
